Model 8842 Thermal Fire Detector, 2-Wire |
GENERAL
The Faraday 8930/31 Air Duct Detector Housings are designed to be used with the Faraday 8900 series ionization or photoelectric detectors. Designed for installation directly to heating, ventilating, and air conditioning duct systems, they comply with National Fire Protection Association Standard No. 90A. When equipped with ionization or photoelectric detectors, these units will signal the presence of hazardous quantities of products of combustion or smoke being carried through the duct system. Air duct detectors are not intended to be substituted for open area detection.
FEATURES
- Self Testing with Status Indicating Multi-Color LED Simple Twist /Lock Assembly Alarm Lock-in Remote Function Output Screw-Clamp Terminals
- UL, ULC, CSFM Listed, FM and NY MEA Approved
DESCRIPTION
The Faraday, Model 8842 thermal fire detector is of the fixed temperature type and is designed for plug-in use with the standard 8853 detector base. Though the detector element is self restoring, the detector electronics lock in upon alarm, therefore it must be reset at the control panel. The detector rating is 135°F (58°C). A lamp is located on the base of the detector to indicate initiation of an alarm.
Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., recommends the thermal detector be used to protect a maximum of 2,500 square feet. Job conditions and engineering judgment, however, often dictate closer spacing to provide faster detection. See NFPA 72 for detector spacing details
OPERATION
This thermal detector, which is shock and corrosion resistant, responds only to heat, so it is suitable for use in areas where normal conditions would prohibit the use of other types of detectors. When connected to Faraday equipment, the detector is fully compatible with Faraday ionization detectors, photoelectric detectors, and manual stations.
In addition to operating its own alarm indicating lamp, the detector can operate one remote indicating lamp or remote relay when desired.
ENGINEER & ARCHITECT SPECIFICATIONS
The thermal fire detector shall be a Faraday Model 8842 and shall be of the fixed temperature type. The detector shall plug into its base and have a lamp to indicate the initiation of an alarm. The detector shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. The plug-in thermal detector shall insert into the standard model 8853 base and shall be compatible with Faraday ionization detectors, photoelectric detectors, and manual stations on the same circuit.
The installing contractor shall install the detectors with #18 AWG thermoplastic wire with 300 volt insulation rating, housed in conduit or limited energy cable where permitted by local codes.
